On Sunday the 18th of July 2010, His Beatitude the Archbishop Hieronymos II of Athens and all Greece paid a visit to the Representation of the Church of Cyprus in Brussels. Bishop Porfyrios of Neapolis, Director of the Bureau of the Church of Cyprus to the E.U., welcomed His Beatitude and informed him about the mission of the Representation of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus to the European Union. A meaningful discussion and an exchange of views followed up.
His Beatitude was accompanied apart from H.E. Metropolitan Athanasios of Achaia, Director of the Office of the Representation of the Church of Greece to the E.U., by the coadjutor of the Holy Archbishopric of Athens f. Gabriel Papanikolaou and the sector f. Adamandios Augoustidis.
To this short visit the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the E.U. Mr. Mavrogiannis and other Cypriots who work at the European Union were also present.
The visit of the Archbishop’s in Brussels was due to an invitation addressed to him by the European Commission’s President Barroso to attend at a meeting of the European Religious leaders to reflect together on the problems of poverty and social exclusion, on the 19th July 2010.
